22. JUNE (Reuters) – A bloodhound named Trumpet won Best of Show at the Westminster Kennel Club’s 146th annual dog show on Wednesday, beating more than 3,000 dogs from 200 breeds and varieties to clinch the title the most prestigious such award in the United States.
Each year, the winning dog wins the Westminster Legend Trophy, a hand-engraved crystal bowl. But even for the first place there is no cash prize. In fact, attending the country’s most prestigious dog show can cost tens of thousands of dollars.

Claire the Scottish Deerhound has just been crowned the 20th Best in Show winner for the 2021 National Dog Show.
This meant that in 2022 there were 211 different dog breeds that could be entered into the show. But this time it was the Bloodhounds that prevailed, with Trumpet taking first place while Winston the French bulldog was second.
By the 134th Westminster Show (February 2010), Best in Show was won by the Terrier group 45 of the 103 times the award has been presented since 1907, more than double the number of wins of any other group. The single breed that has won the most is the Wire Fox Terrier, which has won 15 times.
The most recent winner of this world famous canine competition was GCH CH Pequest Wasabi “Wasabi” the Pekingese, winner of the 2021 Westminster Best in Show.
