Today, most major pet food manufacturers, including Natural Balance, Hills, Mars Petcare, and Purina, still source products from China or say they shop “globally” (meaning they’re made in China relate).
Beneful is a product of Purina, which has a factory in China. Purina also imports ingredients from this country. The best thing you can do is stay away from dog food made in China. Especially those that have been contaminated in the past, such as chicken and duck products.
Almost all of the dog and cat food you find in any grocery or pet store is made in the USA due to the difficulty of importing and exporting. (Recent trade changes have made it very difficult to import dog and cat food from Europe or elsewhere.)
How dog food is made. Commercial dog food is manufactured in facilities that turn raw ingredients into dry food through a process called extrusion. Extrusion involves cooking a mixture of dry and wet ingredients under extreme pressure and high temperatures
Is Purina dog food made in the USA? 99 percent of all Purina pet nutrition products sold in the US are made in the US. Not only is the vast majority of our dog food made in the USA, but we also source most of our ingredients from the USA.
Look at the barcode. If the first 3 digits are 690 or 691 or 692, the product is made in China. Put it down and buy in another country. If the numbers start from 00 to 09, it’s made in the USA.
According to Blue Buffalo’s website, all of its pet foods and treats are manufactured in facilities in the United States, with the exception of Chomp ‘n Chew dog treats, which are co-manufactured in Ireland.
